Permaculture / Ecological Design

Passive solar (avoiding solar gain in summer while inviting winter rays in to warm for us)

Passive Geothermal by way of earth tubes to draw air through the ground to precondition as well as simply alowing thermal mass to help regulate temperatures.

Water Management 

Such a precious resource often regarded as a villian in the construction world. Give it a pathway when it beats your exterior cladding (Rain screens, drying matts or simply an air space between siding and the water resistant membrane that terminates at an outlet). Its not about keeping the water out so much as it is letting it back out by giving it a path. Too much water on your site is rarely an issue. Its an opportunity. Rain catchment systems that hold water high on the landscape can be used for irrigation, feeding natural pools, can be filtered for a myriad of uses and inevitably will recharge underground aquifers as well as add to the overall ecology of the site.
